After 18 years this is what online ads could be (but still aren't): connecting, engaging and entertaining

Back in March Google announced that it will be re-imagining classic ads for the modern web. Last week Project Re:Brief was finally launched at the international avdertising festival in Cannes.

Here’s what Google writes about the Project:

This year, Internet advertising turns 18-years-old.

And yet despite almost two decades of innovation online, digital ads are still being used to simply inform more than they're being used to connect, engage and entertain. So we designed this experiment to re-imagine what advertising can be and push the boundaries of how creative ideas and our technology can work hand in hand.

And what a fantastic job the Re:Brief team has done. Just check out what they created out of these four iconic ads:

Truly inspiring for everyone working in advertising, marketing or PR.

The entire Re:Brief project was also documented in form of a one hour long movie, which can be watched on YouTube. Lean back and enjoy. You’re gonna be inspired.
